Continuing Education Presentations

The For Elysa Foundation offers a 60-minute presentation, "Sudden Cardiac Arrest Within Hours of Emergency Department Evaluation: A Case Study," for hospital staff and others working in healthcare settings.

This interactive presentation and discussion includes:
  • a specific case presentation with testing & lab values and differential diagnosis
  • signs and symptoms consistent and inconsistent with the diagnosis
  • insidious signs of potential cardiac compromise in otherwise healthy individuals
  • brief overview of viral myocarditis
We also cover essential skills for care providers during the session, specifically:
  • looking at patient closely to determine if presentation is still consistent with differential diagnosis
  • listening to patient/family concerns as appropriate
  • getting a “feel” for situation to determine if care is at appropriate level of intensity and urgency for clinical scenario
The review of specific case details features:
  • components of compassionate care throughout course of illness and after sudden cardiac arrest
  • points for advocacy
  • care of the family following unexpected sudden death
Following the presentation, a question and answer session will allow learners to discuss specific concerns and share prior experiences with similar scenarios.
